Our day trip to Washington D.C. was so amazing. The East Coast is unreal to me, the fact that you can hop on the highway and be in another state within 45-90 minutes is crazy because Austin, TX to Houston, TX is like a 3 hour drive and YOU ARE STILL IN TEXAS.
Honestly, something this pandemic has taught me is that there is so much beauty within our own country. Every off-season we try to plan some extravagant trip to some beautiful country and there is SO MUCH we have yet to explore here in the United States. This season has been a blessing in that way because being with an East Coast team this year has allowed me to visit states I would have never really considered traveling to.
D.C. is so historic and the charm within each building and house is just so unique and not something you see everywhere. As we were walking past the Washington Monument to the World War II Memorial and standing next to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool I looked to Rob in just awe that so much history had occurred here from Martin Luther King Jr. giving his iconic “I Have A Dream” Speech to all the presidents who have stood before us and will stand after us. It is just crazy to me. I thoroughly enjoy history so it made my heart happy to be standing on those steps walking up to the Lincoln Memorial.
Here is my travel guide for a nice getaway to Washington D.C.
Food + Drinks
- Unconventional Diner
- Founding Farmers
- Brasserie Liberte
- Clyde’s of Georgetown
- Martin’s Tavern
- Baked and Wired
- Compass Coffee
Two side notes: It was highly recommended to us to go to Baked and Wired when I asked for recs on Instagram, and you have to check out Martin’s Tavern. This tavern is history within itself because it has been around since 1933 and some really cool famous names have been here. JFK proposed to Jackie Kennedy here (HOW COOL) and baseball legends have dined here. It is so unique and lies within Georgetown near the university, and certain booths are named after the events that have occured within them such as The Kennedys proposal booth, the dugout room, and the rumble seat which is where JFK drafted his inaugural speech. Highly recommend this swanky spot.
